Our New Dental Patient Exam
As a new patient to our dental office, you will meet with Dr. Heins, Dr. Gerner, or Dr. Hanna, who will go over your medical history as well as discuss the various concerns and desires of your smile.
According to various research, there is a close connection between oral and overall health. This is why we will spend time making sure that the information we receive is factored into your treatment plan, allowing us to address the root cause of any issue you may incur.
Your unique plan will be drafted based on your needs, not just a random pull of services that do not apply to the health and future of your smile.
You can also expect to undergo a comprehensive oral health assessment during your initial visit.
Our Oral Exam
As part of your oral examination, one of our hygienists will come in and examine your teeth for any signs of tooth decay. After probing each one with a small, specialized device, we will determine if there are any sticky or soft areas in the enamel. If so, it might mean there is a cavity that needs to be treated.
We’ll also take digital X-rays to help pinpoint areas of decay that may not be visible to the naked eye.
Apart from your teeth, you can also expect us to check your gums for signs of gum disease. This is when bad bacteria attack the soft tissue and cause it to appear red, swollen, and even bleed when brushing and flossing. Our hygienists will measure your gum pockets to determine their depth. If they are more than four millimeters, there is a good chance you have gum disease.
Additional aspects of your oral exam will include an oral cancer screening, bite assessment, and TMJ analysis.
Our Dental Cleanings
As part of the dental cleaning process, one of our dental hygienists will come in to help your teeth shine brightly. Their skill, training, and chairside manner are why so many of our patients keep coming back. They appreciate the care and concern our hygienists provide as well as their thorough work.
These twice-yearly cleanings include the use of a soft rotator and fluoride toothpaste, which your hygienist will use to clean the surfaces of your teeth and eliminate any plaque. If tartar is present, they will rely on a special hand instrument to remove it before giving your teeth a final flossing.
